HVD Forum had been providing with specifications of the holographic optical disk which were carried to the Ecma by its sponsor members for standardization. Ecma is a non-profit body for international standards.
Members of Ecma including leading companies and venture companies had discussed and built up the three HVD standards which were published on June 8th. Holographic optical disks are expected as data storage media of its potential capacity over 1 Tera Bytes. This time 200GByte recordable, 100GByte read only and its case were standardized and practical specifications were settled. HVD FORUM was established as HVD Alliance in
2004 and the name was replaced by the current one in 2007.
